Fetch Icon Fetch Help > Messages > "The update was downloaded, but it could not be installed."

If Fetch was able to download, but not install, an update after you asked Fetch to install one, you will receive the message, "The update was downloaded, but it could not be installed. If you want to install the update manually, it will be shown in the Finder." You are offered two choices: Cancel and Quit and Install Manually.

The new update may not be able to be installed because you do not have write permissions for the folder where Fetch is located, or there are other problems with your computer.

You will also receive this message if you've renamed the Fetch application. In this case, you are asked to manually install because you may not want to replace your specially named version of Fetch.

If you click Cancel, the newly downloaded version of Fetch will be discarded and you can continue using the version you have.

If you click Quit and Install Manually, the newly downloaded update is displayed in the Finder. You can then try to install it yourself, or copy it to a location different from the one where the older version of Fetch is installed.

If you get this message and you have not renamed Fetch, you may want to try canceling the update, restarting your computer, running Fetch, and trying to install the Fetch update again by choosing Check for Update from the Fetch menu. If you cancel and do not want to try again right now, Fetch will remind you about the update again later.
