Quickly Enter Words
Once you have setup your document to learn a language (in Learn a Language), you may be worried about how you will enter the tens, hundreds, or thousands of words you want to learn in that language. Entering each word by hand is possible, but can be time-consuming and tedious. Luckily there are ways to speed up the process!
LanguageSync
The easiest way is to use a "LanguageSync". This is a sort of dictionary file that contains many words in a language that have already been entered and translated for you. When you have a LanguageSync installed and activated for your document, you can add partial information for a word and, if it is in the LanguageSync, the rest will be entered for you. To see your installed LanguageSyncs (and to download more), go to the LanguageSyncs Window in the Lexicon>LanguageSyncs menu.
If you want to download a LanguageSync, just click the Download button in the bottom right of the LanguageSyncs Window. In the sheet that appears, you can choose to download LanguageSyncs in several common languages.
Once you have a LanguageSync you want to use installed, you need to activate it for your document. Open the document and show the Languages Drawer (from the View>Show Languages menu) if it is not visible. In the Languages Drawer, select your LanguageSync from the LanguageSync popup menu near the top of the drawer.
Now, when you enter text for a word, if it is in the LanguageSync then its text will automatically be filled in. For a visual walkthrough, see the Languages Tutorial.
Importing Text
Another way to allow you to quickly enter words is by importing text. If you have a text file that contains words you want to learn in a language, Lexicon can read that file and automatically extract words from it into your document. Just click the text file you want to import (it can be .txt, .doc, or .rtf) and drag it onto the words table of your document. You will be asked how you want to import the text, the easiest way is to choose "Extract Text" with the language set to "Generic", which will automatically find words separated by spaces and punctuation (good for most Western languages).
If you have a LanguageSync installed for the language you want to use, you can choose that language instead of "Generic", and only words in the LanguageSyncs dictionary will be extracted (and automatically defined).
