Learn Images and Sounds

In addition to text, you can also add images and sounds to your documents. First, open the Languages Drawer (View-Show Languages), then click the add Language button to add a new language. You can change the language from text to something else in the popup menu at the bottom of the Language Drawer. The different types of languages are described below:

Scribbles

Scribbles are little images you can create within Lexicon. You can draw lines and curves and also add text. After you have created a Scribble language, double click a word in that language's column to edit it. The Edit Scribble sheet will appear:

To draw curves and lines, use the "Pencil" tool. To add text, use the "Text" tool. To move, delete, resize, and rotate shapes, use the "Arrow" tool. To split curves and lines, use the Scissor tool to "cut" a scribble (text can not be cut). (For more on Scribbles, see the Scribbles Tutorial.)

Images

Image languages allow you to add traditional images to your words. You can add any image supported by Mac OS X, including JPEGs, GIFs, PNGs, PSD, PDF, and many more. If you have an image you want to add to a word, just drag it onto the image language's column for that word. To look for images to add, you can click on the gear menu (Gear Menu) and choose to import an image from iPhoto or to search your computer for images to import (using Spotlight), or even to download an image from an internet address.

Audio

Audio languages allow you to add sounds to your words. You can add any audio file supported by Mac OS X, including MP3, AAC, WAV, and many more. Or if you don't have an audio file to import, you can just record one in Lexicon– just click the record icon (Record Icon) for the word you want to record audio for. To import an audio file from your desktop to a word, just drag it onto the image language's column for that word. To look for audio files to add, you can click on the gear menu (Gear Menu) and choose to import a song from iTunes or to search your computer for audio files (using Spotlight), or even to download an audio file from an internet address.

Once you have an audio file for a word, just click the play icon (Play Icon) to play that word's audio.
