Shorten URL with Hurl

Shorten URL with Hurl is a Mac OS X “service”.

What's a service? A service can process or act upon selected text in almost all applications. For example, a Calculator service could calculate a mathematic expression (like 6 * 7) you had selected, and replace the selection with the result (42).

• To install it, simply drag it to your Home → Library → Services folder (first creating that folder if necessary). It will then be available in most applications.
• To use it, choose “Shorten URL with Hurl” from the Services menu in the Application menu (the menu just to the right of the Apple menu, carrying the name of the current application).
• To remove it, take it out of the Home → Library → Services folder, e.g., to the Trash.

Who made Shorten URL with Hurl?

Shorten URL with Hurl was made by me, Tom Kellen.  I found a Mac service called "Shorten URL with Metamark" written by Paul Mucur. You can find his web web site here. Since URL shortener services seem to come and go I thought I would create one for another service, so I edited Paul's original script and change it to use the Hurl.ws service. Then using Waffle Software's ThisService, I packaged it up and here it is.  I hope that someone besides me finds it of use.  If you have any questions or would like to contact me, you can do so via my web site at TaoTek Consulting.
