PCLinuxOS Br Edition E19 is an open source distribution of Linux based on the highly acclaimed PCLinuxOS operating system and built around the modern and eye-candy Enlightenment desktop environment.
Its main target audience is the entire Brazilian Portuguese Linux community, users who want a localized and customized version of the popular PCLinuxOS distribution. It is available in multiple editions, each one with a well known open source desktop environment.
Availability and boot options
This Enlightenment (E19) flavor is distributed as a single and hybrid Live DVD ISO image that can be written to a blank DVD disc or deployed to a USB flash drive. The default usernames and passwords combinations for the live session are guest/guest and root/root.
The default choice on the boot prompt is LiveCD, which allows users to start the live environment and use or install the operating system. However, it is also possible to start the live session with no boot splash (verbose mode), or in safe graphics/failsafe modes.
It is also possible to drop to a shell prompt (Console), copy the entire Live DVD to RAM (system memory) and use the operating system from there, instead of the USB stick, or install the entire distribution without testing it (not recommended).
A great desktop environment and useful applications
Before using the live environment, users will be asked if they want to change the default keyboard layout. After that, the desktop environment will present itself in all its glory, comprised of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen.
Default applications include Leafpad text editor, BleachBit system cleaner, Evince document viewer, XnViewMP image viewer, VLC Media Player, Synaptic Package Manager, and the Mozilla Firefox web browser.
Bottom line
In conclusion, PCLinuxOS Br Edition E19 is a beautiful and easy to use distribution of Linux based on the latest version of PCLinuxOS and designed with the Brazilian Portuguese community in mind. It can be deployed on low-end and mid-range machines.
